Three mountain huts in one day - on foot or by bike through the Karwendel mountains

A clear morning, mountain boots laced up, rucksack in place. Or: the helmet is fastened, the bike checked, the first metres of altitude are rolling. Either way, this tour through Vomper Loch to the Ganalm, Walderalm and Hinterhornalm is a real highlight. For all those who not only want to see nature, but also experience it.

🌄 Start in Terfens - through the wild Vomper Loch

The starting point is the small pilgrimage site of Maria Larch near Terfens. From here, it's a leisurely start before the path to Umlberg soon becomes steeper and rougher.

Hikers should wear good mountain boots - surefootedness is required. If you are travelling by bike, you need to be in good shape and have some gravel experience. However, you will soon be rewarded with your first views of the mystical Vomper Loch - a narrow, deeply carved gorge surrounded by rugged rock faces.

🧀 Ganalm (1,190 m) - First rest stop with a view of the gorge

After the first ascent, you reach the Ganalm - rustic, cosy, with a view deep into the Karwendel. Ideal for a break: a hearty snack, a glass of buttermilk or a coffee with a view. The hut is in a quiet, slightly secluded location - perfect for letting go of everyday life.

🌿 Walderalm (1,500 m) - High above the Inn Valley in the Karwendel Mountains

The path to the Walderalm leads through sparse forests and over gentle alpine slopes. Hikers will enjoy the quiet path. At the top of the hut, a huge panorama opens up over the Inn Valley - and the hut itself is a little gem: authentic, friendly, with Tyrolean classics such as cheese dumplings and bacon bread.

A detour to the small chapel next to the hut is worthwhile - quiet, simple and beautifully situated.

🏞️ Hinterhornalm (1,522 m) - finish with a view

Last stage: to the Hinterhornalm. The route follows a toll road - easily doable for both variants, but once again challenging. Once you reach the top, you have a first-class view of the summit - from the Karwendel peaks to the Tux Alps.

The Hinterhornalm is larger, a little busier, but also really cosy - with regional cuisine, a large garden and the perfect backdrop for a late lunch or a well-earned Kaiserschmarrn pancake.

⛰️ Conclusion

You can return the same way or take the road towards Gnadenwald - depending on your mood and time.
