Hike to the Patscher Alm

Updated: 4 days ago

The short hike begins with a ride on the Patscherkofel cable car in Igls near Innsbruck to the mountain station at 1,964 meters above sea level. The ascent alone offers breathtaking views of the Inn Valley and the surrounding peaks.

From the mountain station, you can walk down to the Patscher Alm in a relatively short time (approx. 45 minutes) on a forest path. On clear days, the Patscherkofel offers fantastic views of the Inntal valley, the Wipptal valley and the Stubai Alps.

The Patscher Alm itself is a lovely place to linger. The alpine hut offers traditional Tyrolean delicacies, especially the homemade cakes are highly recommended.

It is also interesting to note that the Patscherkofel played an important role in the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, when some of the Alpine skiing competitions took place here. From the Patscher Alm, it is just a few minutes to the middle station of the Patscher Kofel cable car, which takes you back down into the valley. However, you can also make the journey on foot.

Discover the Goldbichl in Igls, a fascinating archaeological site. This hill, which is located right next to the Patscherkofelbahn parking lot, was already a sacred place where rituals and ceremonies took place in the Bronze Age. The archaeological trail provides information about the prehistoric finds and offers impressive insights into life 3,500 years ago.
