The hike to the Neue Alplhütte starts in the beautiful village of Wildermieming and leads through peaceful forests to impressive views. Experience nature up close and discover our best insider tips for this special tour.

Why the tour to the Alplhütte is so special
Close, yet secluded: despite its proximity to the Inn Valley, the hut offers a peaceful mountain backdrop and a genuine experience of nature.
Varied route: from dense pine forest to mountain pines and rocks to alpine views – the landscape opens up step by step.
Change of perspective and scenery: Whether views of the Inn Valley, the Mieminger Plateau, or the Mieminger Chain with its rocks—the tour shows Tyrol in all its diversity.

Our personal impression
We set off at dawn – the forest was still wet with dew, and light filtered through the pine trees. On the plateau, we had a fantastic view of the rocks of the Mieminger chain and paused briefly to take a deep breath.
There is a hut at the top, but the surroundings are quiet and unspoiled. The hut also offers great views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The descent via the Straßberghaus was relaxed, and the rocks of the “Steinernes Meer” impressed us with their fascinating geology.

Our tips
Getting there
By car: Drive to Wildermieming, then follow the signs to the paid parking lot above the village at the edge of the forest.
By public transport: You can take the Regiobus 355 from Innsbruck via Telfs to the “Wildermieming” stop. From there, walk to the starting point.
Best season/time of day
Summer to early fall (May to October) is ideal – no snow, good trail markings.
It's worth starting in the morning: less heat, clear light, and you have more time for detours.
In late fall, the light can be particularly beautiful, but you should be aware of the early sunsets and damp weather.

Activities & Variations
Hiking (main trail): The classic route leads along the “Ochsenbründlsteig” trail – approx. 9–10 km long with an elevation gain of approx. 550–650 meters. Total walking time approx. 4 to 4.5 hours there and back.
Circular hike via Straßberghaus: From the hut, you can descend towards Straßberghaus and hike back down into the valley from there – this makes for a beautiful loop.
Summit options: Experienced mountaineers have the option of continuing their ascent – e.g., to the Hohe Munde, the Karkopf, or via the Judenköpfe.
Mountain biking: The forest trail is ideal for a mountain bike tour.

Insider tips
Ochsenbründl Chapel: On the approach, you will pass the chapel with its spring – a refreshing moment and a great photo opportunity.
Steinernes Meer: An area where large boulders lie scattered after a rockslide – it looks like a natural art landscape.
Alplhaus: Just below the hut is the Alplhaus (DAV self-catering hut) – a quiet retreat if you want to stay longer.
Weather & timing: Plan breaks to capture changes in light (e.g., late afternoon, golden light) – and surprisingly: in the afternoon, fog or haze often rolls into the Inn Valley – so start early.
Refreshments & hut opening hours: The Neue Alplhütte offers Tyrolean home cooking (e.g., Kaspressknödel) and has seasonal opening hours (check the hut's website).

Practical tips
Shoes with good tread are important—especially in the forest and on rocky sectio
Bring enough water and a small snack (for on the go).
Bring maps or GPS tracks—it's best to download them in advance.
Be considerate of nature and other hikers—take your trash with you and stay on the trails.

Possible combinations
Tour extension: Continue from the summit of the Hohe Munde or via the Judenköpfe.
Combined tour with circular route: Ascent via the Ochsenbründlsteig, descent via Straßberghaus.
Day trip on the Mieminger Plateau: After the hike in Wildermieming, stroll through the village—small farms, the “Bergdoktor” charm of the place, views of alpine pastures, and quiet paths across meadows complete the experience.
Other huts: Depending on the route, you may also reach one of the neighboring huts in the Mieminger chain—ideal if you are planning a multi-day tour.
