There are days that feel like a holiday from everyday life - even though you're only out and about for a few hours. Our trip to the Pletzachalm was just such a day. Nature, exercise, good food and a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Achensee at the end - there's hardly a better way to spend a summer's day.
Start right by the lake
We set off from the picturesque village of Pertisau, right on the shores of Lake Achensee. You can feel it as soon as you get out of the car: This is where mountain meets lake - in a setting that is almost too beautiful to be true. Of course, Lake Achensee is popular. Especially on warm days, there is a lot going on here. But: there are plenty of parking spaces, so you can start the day in a relaxed manner.
The path to the Pletzachalm climbs gently through the forest and always offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The route is easy to walk and is also ideal for families - just the right mix of exercise and slowing down.
Stop off at the Pletzachalm
After about an hour you reach the Pletzachalm. A small, charming mountain hut with genuine Tyrolean cosiness. Snacks simply taste better here - fresh buttermilk, savoury bacon, spicy cheese and oven-fresh farmhouse bread. Everything is regional, honest and prepared with love.
We really enjoyed our break on the terrace - with a view of the alpine meadows, sitting in the sun, without any time pressure.
Off into the cool water
Back in Pertisau, the perfect finale awaited us: a dip in Lake Achensee! There is a public swimming area right by the lake with a playground, sunbathing lawns and access to the water. Entry is free, the water is wonderfully refreshing and if you like, you can grab a snack from the small kiosk. A wonderful end to the hike.

Our tips:
Start early to enjoy the quieter morning hours.
Park directly in Pertisau - centrally located and close to the starting point of the hike.
Take your swimming gear with you, because a dip in the Achensee is simply a must.
Also ideal with children: short hiking time, playground by the lake and plenty of variety.
Conclusion:
The tour to the Pletzachalm is uncomplicated, beautiful and ideal for an active but relaxing day in the Tyrolean mountains - with everything that goes with it: nature, good food and a refreshing dip in the water.
